A Brief History of Quincy Promes
Quincy Promes is the breakout star of Disney’s live-action adaptation of Aladdin. Coming off his massive success in 2017, the comedian and actor shines in his own film, portraying a young Aladdin who teams up with a genie to travel the world and grant his every wish. The film was a critical and commercial success, winning numerous Oscars (including Best Picture) and setting a multitude of box office records. While it’s not impossible that the studio will seek to continue the magic of the original with more Disney films about the hero’s adventures, it’s also not impossible that they may choose to explore the character more deeply, exploring Aladdin’s journey from street rat to hero. How will he fare in his new role as a grown-up? Will he continue to be a self-made man who refuses to take on society’s mores? Or will he discover that the world can sometimes be a lot more complicated than he initially believed?
These are the sorts of questions that fans of Aladdin will want to know the answers to, and they’ll get a chance to do so when Disney releases its upcoming live-action adaptation of The Lion King on March 19th, 2019. Directed by Louis Canneliére and produced by Joe Roth, Peter Ramsey and Thomas Schumacher, The Lion King will star Donald Glover as the titular Lion and Beyoncé as the wise-cracking, scolding and fierce-scorpioning vocal coach named Mrs. Lion. Besides Glover and Beyoncé, the film also stars an ensemble cast that includes James Earl Jones as the voice of the king, Alexander Oliver as the voice of the jackal, Seth Gilliam as the voice of Simba, Chiwetel Ejiofor as the sloth, and James Frain as the voice of Zazu.
With such a talented cast and legendary directors on board, it’s guaranteed that The Lion King will be worth seeing. But for fans of Disney’s Aladdin, there’s also a lot more on the horizon. Not only will Glover reprise his role as the street rat Abu for the studio’s remake of The Jungle Book, but he’ll also star in and produce a Netflix series based on the Marvel Comics character, Ironman. Glover’s agent, Steve Bauer, broke the news about the actor’s role in a Marvel series to Entertainment Weekly in April 2018, sharing, “We’re honored that Disney has chosen Quincy as their voice of choice for their upcoming series. Quincy is a household name among fans of Marvel comics, and we’re excited to lend him the voice of one of Marvel’s most iconic heroes.”
A Role Model for Future Actors
It’s not just the fans of Disney’s iconic films that have been inspired by Quincy Promes’ iconic performance as Aladdin. The comedian’s ability to effortlessly switch between comedy and drama has also served as an example to future actors. As he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017, “I want to be known for my versatility as an actor, being able to play different characters. That’s the most important thing. Besides playing the lead, Promes had a supporting role in Avengers: Endgame as the adult Peter Quill/Star-Lord, the green-skinned protagonist of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Like Howard the Duck, Peter Quill is best known for his wacky humor and ability to crack wise even in life-or-death situations. In the same year that he broke barriers playing multiple characters in a film for the first time, the comedian made headlines for a very different reason.
